It has been reported that the series will relay a story with “a sense of emotional psychology.”

The forthcoming sequel of the 1991 epic murder mystery “The Silence of the Lambs” will have a title “Clarice.” A number of plot details have recently been confirmed by the executive producer of the series.

The executive producer of the series Alex Kurtzman has recently revealed how the series will be told in a serialized way rather than following the usual procedural method. In the very heart of the story will be Clarice Starling (played by Jodie Foster in the 1991 film) and the series will explore the aftermath of the events of the Academy Award-winning film.

Kurtzman clearly exposited in his interview with the Hollywood Reporter that he didn’t want the story to be something like “Clarice Starling: The Procedural.”  He had no interest in making such a show, and MGM from whom the producers have bought the rights for “Clarice” also had disapproval in that regard.

When asked about why the show is heading straight to the CBS network instead of moving to a high profile streaming service, Kurtzman had the same response- he does not want to reduce the show to a procedural product.

Kurtzman extrapolated his conversation with the CBS CCO David Nevins. He said the conversation was pretty straight forward. Nevins told him to do whatever he wants to do with that show. Kurtzman wanted a serialized way of storytelling. Nevins agreed and told him to do it on the network.

Kurtzman said that there is cohesion with the production team and the network regarding the procedural-serialized debate, and he finds that quite “amazing.”

The executive producer then went on to talk about how the series will explore the genre of “emotional psychology.” He explained that the pilot of the series is titled as “Silence is Over”, and that it will appropriately set the tone for the rest of the series as he wants it to be just about Clarice Starling.

The show will be based on her psychology, her emotions, her courage, and her growth after the events of Buffalo Bill and the trauma that it left with her.

The Silence of the Lambs has a legacy and a cult following which will be hard to replicate. The 1991 film was a murder mystery that was centred around Jodie Foster’s investigation of Buffalo Bill’s murders and also her twisted relationship with a confined cannibal Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) who strangely acted as her mentor in every step of the way while also plotting his escape from the incarceration.

The prison escape scene of Hannibal has been considered to be one of the best-written scenes in the history of cinema.

The chilling no-eye blinking scene of Hannibal behind the glass confinement has been regarded as one of the hardest scenes to act. Remember that scene? When he meets Jodie Foster for the first time? It also speaks boatload about his acting virtuosity which if you look at his career can be measured in gigantic proportions.

“The Silence of the Lambs” has been regarded by many as one of the greatest films of all time, and Hopkins’ personification of Hannibal Lecter is also perhaps the best in history (maybe behind Heath Ledger’s Joker or Javier Bardem’s Anton Chigurh).

Clarice, the sequel of the 1991 Anthony Hopkins starrer, will probably premiere on CBS network sometime later this year.
